I’m sorry for not updating anything last week! I hope you had a nice one, and welcome back on Little Gladys for today’s article! I’m going to talk about two things I came to fall in love with in the past week!
Believe it or not, but I actually got out of my house for something else than uni and I went to the cinemas with a friend of mine! What did I see? Well, obviously, The Danish Girl! I had been waiting for this movie for AGES. I came across the trailer a few months ago, and I was super duper excited, truly happy that they treated this subject in such a big production, completely ecstatic by the actors’ choices, and I really, really, really couldn’t wait to see it!
Lemme tell you, I was far, far, far from disappointed. I enjoyed myself more than I could ever tell you.
First off, for those who don’t know about this movie, here is the trailer!
Now, why is it part of the likes of my week? Let’s be clear right from the beginning: it’s a goddamn beautiful movie. The music is utterly magnificent, composed by Alexandre Desplat, and will make you enjoy each single scene of the film. Moreover, the directing choices are wonderful, the angles are really beautiful, the play with the hands movement, the scarfs, the dresses, is truly beautiful. I’m far from being objective here, as you can guess, but I loved this movie too much to try and remain calm, sorry not sorry. I also have to salute the actors’ play, which is really amazing, mindblowing. Eddie Redmayne is completely impressive in his interpretation of Einar and Lili, Alicia Vikander is really touching, really emotive in her role, their acting together is transcending. All the cast is really wonderful, and this added to the filming and the music got me all amazed.
SPOILERS ALERT – SKIP THE NEXT PARAGRAPH IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW SOME DETAILS (AND ENDING, HAH)
What I loved the most is the recurring theme of the hands movements, when Lili practiced her position, when she got to touch dresses and thighs for the first time, all the theme around the hands was really beautiful, truly delicate – and the fact that the last thing that we see of Lili is her hand falling made it even more touching, getting a deeper meaning, in my opinion. Undoubtedly, the scenes with the scarf were also really well thought. The scarf shows her becoming of Lili, her acceptance of herself, her evolution, if we could say so, and the complete ending, with the scarf being taken by the wind, breaking free in the air, had such a profound, deep meaning that it got me all teared up. I believe that those little details, added to the wonderful acting, really got my heart trapped in unconditional love for this movie.
SPOILERS OVER – YOU CAN GO ON READING, NOW!
Well then, what did I love else this week?
It’s all new, right out today, but let me say some words on Rihanna’s brand new album – ANTI.
Truth be told, I’m not a huge Rihanna fan. Sure, I danced to her songs, sang them loudly during parties, whilst being sure I had a freaking perfect voice (which I do not), but I’m not a supreme fan. Thus, when I saw today that she finally dropped her new album, I was kinda not caring that much. However, one fan fiction writer that I really admire and follow on Twitter posted something about it that really tinkled my curiosity. She said that it was far higher up than anything she could have expected, that it was completely different from anything she did before, and that she thus really-really-really liked it.
Well then, you must admit that reading this is a bit intriguing, isn’t it? Of course, I went to check a bit on online newspapers what they said about it, and was truly surprised when I saw that Rihanna proposed her album to free download for a limited time. Well, that must have been fate, right? I clicked, downloaded it whilst abusing of my university’s wifi, and began to listen to the first song.
Really, that’s what I thought. It was really different. Not what I expected at all. I stopped the song, went to my classes, and it’s only about an hour ago that I finally sat down on my sofa and launched the full album.
I enjoyed every single song on it.
Of course, I’m not going to say that I completely love every single one of them, as I’m not, in the beginning, an R&B fan, and some songs are a bit too R&B for me, but I still enjoyed listening to them all, in one single go – and that’s a freaking new for me considering it’s Rihanna. As of right now, I think my favourites are “Never ending” and “Love on the brain” ! I’m really surprised – in a positive way! I’m glad I put down my prejudges and decided to download the album, as it’s definitely a really, really good one. Sure, as it’s really different than what we expected/are used to from her, many will not like it, think it’s deceiving, but I rather think that’s it’s really daring and brave to release such an album! I believe she really enjoyed composing it, as it feels like an album where a musician takes the time to search who they really are and what they want to do.
Well, I might be seeing too much into this, so let’s keep it to a single fact: Freaking surprised, in a damn good way, and finishing today with a wonderful discovery!
Here we go guys! Here are my discoveries and likes of the week! What are yours? Got anything you’d like me to discover too? Share, share, and spread knowledge in this world! Feel free to share this article too, if you feel like some could like to know about these two discoveries! 😉
I’ll see you very very soon with another blogpost!
